Exhaustion has taken me hostage. Possessively leaning its way forward advancing its place in a long line of suitors; the flu, sinus infection, mild dehydration. It’s swift and unexpected when it burgles my routine armed with an untimely twelve hour nap, grabbing hold and disheveling an entire day.
Groggy and disoriented slowly I peel my eyelids open. Taking in my surroundings a blink at a time. I rise, stretching upward towards the sky, bending and twisting my body. Both hands flailing above my head like an impatient child with an unspoken request to be plucked and placed on a hip.
Guzzling water, contemplating food consumption or work my mind reflexively shapes a new to-do list. They say ‘the devil is in the details’… Having been caught in this fury a time or two the residuals from mistakes past highlight the importance of rest and revival. Time restrictions clash with the growing length of the created list and sounds like an alarm in my skull.
I lunge for my journal and press the power button on the laptop.
